How to Select a Logistics School
Some schools have developed programs for warehouse workers, due to the huge demand for education specifically on logistics. She states that employers want their employees to understand how they can affect customers, and how their actions in one department can impact other departments.
The options for degrees vary but they all include the foundation courses that introduce basic concepts, like operations and supply chain management procurement, transportation, distribution networks storage and inventory management, and business fundamentals. Some universities offer specializations in online commerce, retail logistics, transportation, logistical analysis and global logistics management.
Graduates are prepared to serve in roles as supply chain managers, logisticians purchasing agents industrial production managers and distribution managers. They can also seek certifications such as the Certified Supply Chain Manager or the Certified Public Contract Manager to improve their career prospects.
Consider whether the university is accredited. This is done by a group like the U.S. Department of Education, or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. These organizations have accreditation for 8,200 institutions and 44,000 programs. You should look for a school that has an excellent student-teacher ratio, as this will help you receive quality education.
Some colleges offer online or hybrid programs, which combine classroom instruction with online learning opportunities. This model may be appealing to employees who prefer the flexibility of their schedules or aren’t able to attend traditional classes. Some online-only courses provide associate degrees or certificates and others offer master’s or bachelor’s degrees.
